we want your ideas

Got ideas for the next carnival? We want to know!

Due to increasing legislation it is only a question of time before the Carnival Procession has to change it's format. Motorised Vehicles are going to play less and less a part due to insurance and other constraints. So, how can we overcome this?
First thoughts are that the procession will have to become a walking procession with "Walking floats" as seen by "Wings" this year. An excellent float that was in the spirit of carnivals to come and it was "Green" too!
This in itself is ok but, we will need to encompass all who take part and some people/children are just not able to walk the mile and a half of the current route which may well need to be ammended.

Another idea spotted on a carnival website was to go back to dressing up cars and vans and not allowing anyone on them. But, this takes us back to how far can someone walk?

Finally, combining the two somehow. Let the children dress up and sit on a suitable trailer that is towed around the procession by strong willing helpers! (Read Mom's and Dad's!) Similar in style to a horse and cart.

Some have argued to remove the procession alltogether, but, this has its own problems...

  • Firstly, it announces to the village that the carnival is now on.
  • Secondly, it is a good generator of income for charity as hundreds of people give money to the collection along the way.
  • Thirdly, and to many this is the most important bit, the children and many of the adults love the building of the floats and taking part in the procession. And lets face it...they are truly spectacular works of art!!

So what about the actual Carnival? Has anyone got some suggestions to improve that?

Some of the things "muted" so far....

  • Tug of War (across the brook!!) made up from teams from all the local hostelries, schools, clubs, charities and "Uncle Tom Cobbley and all!"
  • More "Live MUsic"...Jazz, Folk, Blues/Rock, Skiffle or even, an "Oompah Band"
  • Soap Box Racing....a timed trial down a specially prepared course
  • Competitions....eg: Glamouros Granny/Bonny baby/Miss Wombourne
  • Farmers Market
  • Car Boot
