Delta Blue to play special gig for the Maryport Organisers!!

Yes it's true...Duncan has been asked to take the lads to Maryport and perform a number of gigs. However, the lads are to play a special gig for the organisers of the festival  specifically at their request!! What better accolade can you get? (Main stage next year?) Check out the headline act for this year at the festival its the one and only Buddy Guy!! I kid you not!! It's the last weekend of July so get yourselves up there...it is something special I kid you not!!!

New Logo tryout, Website now with a new ISP, (NTL) so probably a few problems over the next few weeks. Nothing we can't handle.
Oh...and we are now officially the Band that Maryport...well...banned!!
It's along story...but without getting ourselves into trouble we are not listed, or shown, on any information regarding The Maryport Blues Festival.

Rest assured, we are booked and are appearing at The Labour Club pretty well all weekend. (Just try and shift us) Politics at Maryport have ruled the day, there is no animosity all around, but, and it's a big but...We have been effectively banned as a trail band at Maryport until presumably (hopefully) next year. This is the self same band that took Maryport by storm last year, was in the Maryport local press, made headline news in Music papers and believe it or not, made it into, The Sunday Express, no less!!

So...if your coming to Maryport, remember that we officially are not there, but if you listen carefully, above the din of some of the bands playing there, you will hear Duncan's velvet tones backed by The  Band...that was Banned... by Maryport!! (C'est la vie)

Independent Review
The Gig at the Captain Nelson, Maryport.
By Steve Bouckley for Blues Matters Magazine

Tuesday 28th January 2003

The new year ha
s started "good and proper" and the lads have just played their first gig(s) with a mini tour of Cumbria. Keith, unfortunately, couldn't make the tour because of work commitments but, our stand in bassist, Keith Mayall, slotted in a treat. (But we soon killed him off!) Matt had his indoctrination of fire, three gigs, within a new band, in forty eight hours and according to Duncan and Nick he fitted in "first rate". So the story goes, as told to me by Duncan, Friday night at the "Duke of Edinburgh", Barrow in Furness was "superb" just like the last time they played there. A very enthusiastic and willing crowd witnessed Matt's first gig with the band and all went well. Generally, as always at "The Duke", the band felt well received and  can't wait to be back later in the year. (About September)

Saturday at "Dickie Doodles" Kendal was, to all intents and purposes, better than at the Duke!!! Our bass player was "getting on down" with the best of them and Matt was finding his feet were now firmly under the table and he was beginning to relax. His true  drumming potential was definitely coming through. Again the crowd and staff were superb and the band has been asked back later in the year...watch this space!

If Friday and Saturday were good gigs, Sunday was to prove to be...unbelievable! The band weren't allowed to leave the stage!! The venue was "The Captain Nelson" in Maryport. Now last year when DB were playing at the Maryport Blues Festival (you must go it's absolutely...bostin!!) I walked about checking the trail bands out and thought at the time what a cracking venue, we need to get in to this place. So here they are "giving it some", its a Sunday (not the best of times to play) and the band got the best reception they feel they have probably ever had!! They sold out of CD's, suppose they should have took more, and played for an hour more than they were booked for!! And yes...they had another return booking to be played during the Maryport Blues Festival. (Rumour has it that they are getting three dates at the festival) The band trouped home feeling like rock stars!! Mind you, getting home at three in the morning, with just three and a half hours sleep before getting up for the day job, soon brings you back down to earth!!

So...Who's coming to Maryport?
This has got to be my favourite place in the touring calendar. It's in one of the nicest parts of the country, Cumbria, it's by the sea, there is loads of good music and I mean loads, and if the weather is nice guys, the totty is...sorry girls...the beer is... damn good and very reasonably priced i.e. Read..." Damn cheap!!"

July 25th 26th and 27th 2003....Be there!!

Finally, the band would like to thank all the staff and customers at the respective venues in Cumbria for their hospitality and kindness shown over the weekend with a special mention to Janet and John for their commitment and following of the band. This couple seem to take all their weekend breaks wherever the band goes and having met them, I can tell you now they know how to enjoy themselves!!

So it is with great pleasure we award them with the Delta Blue "Staying the Distance" Award!

"Happy New Year"

Well another new year has started and we get off to a good start by introducing our new drummer Matt Hart and the website has been amended to suit. Matt has his own spot under the history section but until we know more about him there isn't much to tell!

Friday 13th December 2002

I write the date in full for all superstitious people, as today, Roger our Drummer left the band! Yes, he has finally hung up his sticks!! He will be sorely missed.

But look on the bright side...the next guy might know when to come in!!

News on the forthcoming CD is that the bloke on the left needs to get his act together and lay down some guitar riffs and a bit of vocals. Lots of things have held up production from simple things like flue, Nick's broken hand and it is leading up to Christmas. Lets hope that the New Year brings a new drummer, with fresh input, along with some good gigs!!
